Love and Accuracy

28.09.2019 - 09.11.2019
opening: Saturday, 28 September 2019, 4pm - 7pm Please note: On the day of the opening the gallery opens from 4pm.

The canvas paintings by HANS AICHINGER (*1959 in Leipzig, Germany) are filled with concentration: once the one he uses when painting the highly accurate figures and even more in the mental tension that the characters seem to feel themselves. This concentration does not reveal its object, it lies outside the picture frame, without reference, in the open. Aichinger thus creates a balance between figuration and abstraction and balances the readability of the paintings between possible and impossible.

The artists watercolor drawings are dreamlike. While Aichinger enforces in his painting practice the strict rigor of photographic realism, with his new series of drawings he indulges in a whimsical pallet of pastel colors. Nevertheless, these drawings retain the eerie playfulness that has come to characterize Aichinger?s entire oeuvre. The scenes he painstakingly composes seem suspended on the immaculate backdrop of their white page. Deprives of any architectural elements, they appear like visions, fantasies or memories that stimulate the imagination of the beholder. (Anaïs Castro)

From September 28th on Galerie Löhrl is showing a selection of paintings and watercolor drawings by HANS AICHINGER for the first time in their gallery rooms in Mönchengladbach, Germany.

Bronze-Editions 1992-2019

28.09.2019 - 09.11.2019
opening: Saturday, 28 September 2019, 4pm - 7pm Please note: On the day of the opening the gallery opens from 4 pm.

STEPHAN BALKENHOL is regarded as pioneering in contemporary figurative sculpture and as one of Germanys most internationally renowned artists.

Balkenhols sculptures are mostly anonymous figures. Men and women, but also animals that reveal nothing, show no emotions and remain difficult to grasp. By largely taking back a psychologizing dimension, Balkenhols characters are always a mirror that reflects the viewers feelings, wishes and hopes.

Since 1992 and parallel to his woodwork he creates bronze works in small editions, which occupy a significant part in his ouvre. More than 50 figurative sculptures, which as well as the woodwork have the typical Balkenhol characterized traces of work, have been created so far. The bronze editions often serve to finance large-scale public projects and thus the realization of large-scale outdoor sculptures, for which the artist is known and which can be admired in prominent places in many cities. Among other works, this includes the early edition Giraffe mit Mann (Giraffe with man) from 2000, whose prominent eight-meter version stands in front of the entrance to Hagenbecks zoo in Hamburg, Germany. Or, last but not least, the work ohne Titel/Untitled (Lörrach Mann/Lörrach Man), whose almost 7-meter version was solemnly unveiled at Senser Platz in Lörrach, Germany in November 2017.

Starting on Saturday, September 28th, the gallery will be presenting all the bronze editions that have been created so far for the first time in their gallery space in Mönchengladbach, Germany. At the opening, the new catalog raisonné of the bronze editions will be presented.
